FAQ:
Here are answers to the most frequently asked questions about CinemaView products. Don't see your question answered here? Send it to us by email at support@cinemaview.com.
Q. Who manufactures these products?
A. These are products of Collins America, headquartered in Nashville, Tennessee, USA. They are designed and engineered by obsessive-compulsive Apple fanatics in the USA, and are built by one of the top computer monitor and LCD television factories in China.
Q. Are these just copies of Apple's displays?
A. No. We created our designs to be distinctly different than Apple's. Our component and materials selections are unique. And, we think our tilt mechanism and Aluminum base design are sexier than Apple's.
Q. What is "UniFrame" construction?
A. The exposed Aluminum edge around the outside of the product is just the visible portion of a complex high-pressure die cast Aluminum structure that extends deeply into the inside of the chassis. All of the components are attached to this central frame, making the entire product into one rigid unit.
Q. Can I buy any place other than online?
A. Yes. In the USA CinemaView displays will be available through any Apple Specialist retailer. You can find your closest Apple Specialist by using the store locator on their web site. Also, a growing group of other independently owned Apple products retailers and custom A/V contractors around the world will be handling CinemaView products. Prior to actual products shipping we will add a “Where To Buy” web page to locate resellers in the USA and international markets.
Q. Can I become a reseller?
A. Yes. If you are the owner/manager of an independently owned Apple products retail location, or custom AV contracting firm anywhere in the world, we would like to send you our reseller kit. Just send us an email to info@cinemaview.com.
Q. Can I buy at Apple, Best Buy, Dixons, Euronics, Fry's, or other major retail chains?
A. Possibly.
Q. Why did you decide to build these products?
A. We love the perfectionist, artistic approach Apple takes to its own products, and we love the aesthetics of a nicely matched Apple based computer and media system. When we looked for more affordable display options to Apple's what we found was a sea of plastic junk. So, as they say, a business was born.
Q. Are you seriously referring to lower cost products from other brands as "plastic junk"?
A. Yes. Every decision these brands make is guided by cost reduction and feature bloat. We took an entirely different approach in our design philosophy, one aimed at making a true Apple fan as happy as possible with their purchase.
Q. Why is there no MagSafe power plug?
A. Apple will not license the MagSafe design to third-parties. And, our displays are intended to work equally well with both portable and desktop Macs.
Q. Is there a VESA arm or wall mount available?
A. No. The CinemaView 24 can only be used with its attached table stand.
Q. What color management and calibration controls are there?
A. We intend for our customers to use the display calibration controls within the OS X Displays System Preferences pane to make adjustments when driving a display directly from a Mac.
Q. What display resolutions will the CinemaView TV drive?
A. Only 1920x1080p/60 HD resolution is supported.
Q. What resolutions and modes will the CinemaView 24 display model support?
A. The displays only support 1920x1080 resolution at 60 frames per second timing in spanning mode. They do not support mirroring mode except with the 21.5-inch iMac, because that is the only Apple computer with a built-in display with 1920x1080 pixels resolution. “Mirroring” can only work with an external display with the same resolution as the built-in display in a notebook or all-in-one computer.
Q. Are these products equipped with HDCP encryption?
A. The present CinemaView 24 is not, as there is very little Mac-native graphics content requiring HDCP at this time.
Q. Is there a DVI adapter for use with older Macs?
A. We are aware of two different third-party adapters to connect Mini DisplayPort displays to a DVI-D single-link jack that will be on the market by the time we begin shipping. One is by Gefen. The other is by Atlona.
Q. What connections are on the cable?
A. CinemaView displays have a single integrated cable that is made from very soft and flexible materials in a light gray color. As an example, the CinemaView 24 cable is 1.9 meters long, and the final 300mm splits out into three separate connectors. One plugs directly into the Mini Displayport jack on any current Mac. The other plugs into a USB 2.0 jack. The other extends an additional 800mm and plugs into the AC-DC power supply.
Q. Why won't you pay shipping on returns?
A. We offer some pretty pricey shipping options. And, we have no control over what a buyer selects for shipping. A lot of these will go out by overnight or other priority services, for example. We're not cheap, but, we have to draw the line somewhere on what we will pay and what the customer will pay. That line is at the "we don't pay shipping" point for us.
Q. Why is there an extra charge for “electronic waste fee” on my order shipped to California?
A. California requires any company selling an LCD display product to a California shipping destination to collect an ‘Electronic Waste Recycling Fee’ and then report and submit the money back to the State of California. For displays between 15 and 35 inches the fee is $16. For sizes of 35 inches or more the fee is $25. We have no choice in the matter, as this fee is imposed by California state law.
30-Day No Questions Refund Policy
CinemaView buyers who purchase directly from our web store have a 30-day period from the time of purchase during which they can receive a Return Merchandise Authorization for any reason. All we require is that we be contacted within that initial 30-day post-purchase period for an RMA to be issued, that nothing is ever shipped to us without an RMA being obtained in advance, and that all originally supplied product, components, and accessories be returned in as-new condition. This policy applies only to the original buyer of the CinemaView product. A 15% deduction will be made in the refund amount to offset the shipping and handling costs. Additional deductions may be made based on the completeness and condition of the returned product. This policy does not apply to products purchased from CinemaView resellers.
1-Year Limited Replacement Warranty
Any CinemaView product will be replaced if it fails to perform as advertised during the 1-year period following the date of purchase. Proof of purchase is required to establish the one-year warranty period. Without proof of purchase the warranty coverage will be provided for one-year from the date of manufacture, determined form the product serial number. No warranty coverage is provided on products with a defaced, illegible, or missing serial number. Contact us for an RMA to be issued, ship nothing to us without an RMA being obtained in advance, and send the defective product and a copy of your proof of purchase to the repair center we specify. We will send a replacement product back to you, with you paying the shipping cost. This warranty applies only to the original buyer of the CinemaView product.
